| The following
guidelines will apply to all individuals using
data collection by the Family Care Research
Program Team (FCRP).
- Each data user must complete a Permission
Request Form, available by calling
(888) 353-0306 or (517) 353-0306 or online
at http://www.cancercare.msu.edu.
Data requests should be done in writing with
a clear specification of variable name, card
number, column number, and labels from the
codebook, and the specific study. "Scale"
versus "item" also needs to be identified.
- Data requests cannot be provided
on demand. Please allow 10-14 days to receive
data after requested.
- Each data user is responsible for the analysis
of data provided. FCRP staff are not responsible
for providing data analysis support or funds
for data provided.
- All use of FCRP data must be in keeping
with NIH guidelines and with full knowledge
of how it is to be used by Principal Investigator
Manuscripts Using FCRP Data
- All manuscripts to be submitted using or
citing FCRP data must be shared with the Principal
Investigator of the relevant grant before
submission. [The more peripheral that an individual
is to the day-to-day activities of the FCRP,
the more important this becomes.] Final approval
rests within PI's for resubmission.
- Full acknowledgement of the grant title,
grant number, funding agency, Principal Investigator,
and the period of funding must be included.
- Example: Research supported by the following:
Given, B.A. & Given, C.W. (9/93-8/97).
Family Home Care for Cancer - A Community-Based
Model, grant #R01 NR/CA01915, funded by
the National Institute for Nursing Research
and the National Cancer Institute.
- A copy of all manuscripts using FCRP data
must be sent to B427 W. Fee Hall, MSU, once
submitted. Where and when the manuscript was
submitted must be included. Up-to-date progress
including rejection needs to be provided to
the grant PI on a regular semester basis.
Abstracts Using FCRP Data
- All abstracts to be submitted using or citing
FCRP data must be shared with the Principal
Investigator of the relevant grant before
submission.
- Full acknowledgement of the grant title,
grant number, funding agency, Principal Investigator,
and the period of funding must be included.
- Example: Research supported by the following:
Given, B.A. & Given, C.W. (9/93-8/97).
Family Home for Cancer - A Community-Based
Model, grant #R01 NR/CA01915, funded by
the National Institute for Nursing Research
and the National Cancer Institute.
- A copy of all abstracts using FCRP data
must be sent to B427 W. Fee Hall once submitted.
A full reference which includes sponsor of
meeting, date, location, and type of meeting
must be included.
Presentations Using FCRP Data (Papers
or Posters)
- All presentations to be given using or citing
FCRP data must be shared with the Principal
Investigator of the relevant grant before
submission.
- Full acknowledgement of the grant title,
grant number, funding agency, Principal Investigator,
and the period of funding must be included.
- Example: Research supported by the following:
Given, B.A. & Given, C.W. (9/93-8/97).
Family Home Care for Cancer - A Community-Based
Model, grant #R01 NR/CA01915, funded by
the National Institute for Nursing Research
and the National Cancer Institute.
- A copy of all presentations given using
FCRP data must be sent to B427 W. Fee Hall,
MSU, once presented. A full reference which
includes sponsor of meeting, date, location,
and type of meeting must be included.
- All slides or posters prepared grant support
staff or paid for with grant funds remain
the property of the grant and should be returned
to B427 W. Fee Hall, MSU, after use.
Theses and Dissertations Using FCRP Data
- Students who want to use FCRP data for theses
or dissertations must discuss their plan of
intent with the relevant Principal Investigator.
The PI must review the research questions
and reserves the right to decide if data will
be made available.
- Students must present a copy of their "methods"
chapter and a human subjects approval form
to the relevant Principal Investigator prior
to requesting and obtaining the actual data.
- Data requests should be done in writing
with a clear specification of variable name,
card number, column number, labels from the
codebook, and the specific study needs to
be identified. "Scale" versus "item"
also needs to be identified. Students should
provide 3 1/2 inch diskettes, a zip disk or
a CD-ROM disk when the data request is submitted.
Data will be extracted from the larger data
set and saved on the disk or CD-ROM disk in
either SPSS or ASCII file format and given
to the student. Ten to 14 days will be necessary
to obtain any data.
- Full acknowledgement of the grant title,
grant number, funding agency, Principal Investigator,
and the period of funding must be included.
- Example: Research supported by the following:
Given, B.A. & Given, C.W. (9/93-8/97).
Family Home Care for Cancer - A Community-Based
Model, grant #R01 NR/CA01915, funded by
the National Institute for Nursing Research
and the National Cancer Institute.
- A copy of the title page, abstract page,
and table of contents of the final thesis
or dissertation must be delivered to the relevant
Principal Investigator.
- Any publication and/or presentation that
emanates from the thesis or dissertation must
meet the same criteria as publications and
presentations listed above - prior approval
from the PI will be necessary in keeping with
the NIH guidelines.
